Artist Statement

My older sister Claudia (Nenita, her nickname) my entire life has been my perfect example of a powerful and ambitious woman. She walks wearing her crown high, knowing that her footsteps are what will change the world. She has impacted and helped the lives of everyone that has ever crossed her path. Nena constantly shows me what leadership, manifestation, and ambition looks like, especially being the most successful woman I have ever known. She has connected me to our ancestors, our traditions, and my spirit. She has aided and healed my adolescent and adult self. Everyday I'm growing, I try to return everything she has done, with all of the unconditional love, reciprocated to her. Nena is my greatest inspiration and biggest blessing.

Nenita & Erika (My beloved Sister in Law) have shown the world that true love is growth, patience, and acceptance. I have been blessed to see one of the most beautiful love stories unravel in front of my eyes. Their love is beautiful, brown, powerful, and unapologetic. We unfortunately come from a community where LGBTQ+ is constantly in danger and unaccepted- due to religion, machismo, and conservative views. This is only one story of many, but I hope my intimate project can act as a symbol of strength. LGBTQ+ love deserves to exist freely and safely, and we shouldn’t stop in unity until we’re granted that. I pray that every love story that is hidden, shunned, or unsupported gains their happily ever after.
