Artist Statement

My first assignment at FIT was to photograph a self portrait, from the perspective of another person. I based it on my mother’s perspective, being in her powerful womb. The older I've become, the more she has accepted my maturity and has embraced the woman I am becoming. However, no matter what age I turn, she always reminds me that I am her baby; "La Tesoro de Mami" as she loves to refer to me as. Being in her womb amplifies the fact that I am proud to be a reflection of her strength, her beauty, and independence. I titled my intimate project, “Mi Cielo” (translated into my heaven/sky) because my siblings and I all share this one nickname together.
